I have a blog!

How did that happen?!

I never thought I’d have a blog. I’ve definitely considered it a few times over the years for various reasons but it has never happened. And then I found sewing, and this amazing community…and here I am!

I started sewing in February 2021. I did do textiles at school (a long time ago now) but didn’t enjoy it and didn’t continue sewing afterwards; we made a cushion cover or two, and I remember a very boring kids dress (I knew no kids so that was pointless) and there was a whole term I think spent on silk painting which is a lovely skill to have but we were expected to draw things like fruit and I do not have the artistic capability to draw a realistic apple, nor do I have any desire to fill my house with pictures of badly drawn fruit, so that was a bit painful. Every now and again I’d have a moment of “wouldn’t it be fun to make everyone bags for Christmas” but then the idea would pass as I realised that would require me to buy a machine, and fabric, and know what I was doing…

But the pandemic changed all that. Another lockdown spent staring at my laptop all day and then the TV all evening made me take the leap! I bought a very basic machine and a load of fat quarters (not knowing what a fat quarter was) and some cheap thread and the rest is history. Oh and in December 2021 everyone got bags for Christmas!

I’m not entirely sure where this will go. I have some ideas, some of which I am VERY excited about, but I also have a full-time job which (sadly) has to take priority over the fun stuff. But in the short term you can expect more of my ramblings on things I’m sewing and probably the occasional rant, because who doesn’t love a good rant.

You can also find me on Instagram at @nottooshabbyuk (for blog related content) and @fatthighsandmermaidpants (for sewing plus cats and food and chaos).
